Rivaroxaban also known as Xarelto® is a best oral anticoagulant drug. This drug plays a major role in treating cardiovascular diseases, myocardial infarctions and other artery disorders.Till date Aspirin is used as a best drug for the treatment of heart attacks  but still the mortality rate did not decrease in cardiac patients. Investigators conducted a study in about 100 cardiac patients and found that the patients who were earlier treated with aspirin were more susceptible to attacks when compared to those treated with rivaroxaban. There was a tremendous improvement in patients who used rivaroxaban. The mechanism of the drug is little similar with that of aspirin. Usually the patients diagnosed with coronary and peripheral artery diseases have very thick arteries.

It clearly means that the inner wall of the arteries become thick gradually due to the accumulation of lipids, calcium deposition etc in the form of plaques. These plaques obstruct the normal blood flow in the heart and as a result blood cannot be transported normally to other parts of the body. This process of plaque formation or hardening of arteries is called atherosclerosis. Strokes are eventually caused when these plaques rupture leading to blood clots.
Rivaroxaban, an anticoagulant prevents clot formation in the cardiac patients. Hence this drug which is available in the market with a trade name – Xarelto® can be used in life threatening conditions after a proper physician’s advice.
